Activity 2
This activity can be done over a period of a couple days.
1. Read the article, Reaching Out by Parker Collins in Grip on Life magazine (file located below).
2. Make a list of signs Susan saw in her friend Jessica.
3. Have students write a journal entry about a time when they were depressed or sad and reflect on how that affected the way they acted.
(more withdrawn, quiet, didn't enjoy doing things they usually like)
4. Discuss how Jessica's family and friends helped her.
5. As a class come up with a couple ways students can prevent depression or deal with it.
6. Being Positive: Have everyone anonymously write 1 compliment for each person in the class. The teacher will gather responses,
compile them and hand back the list of compliments to the student they pertain to.
7. Implement an encouragement board in the classroom where students can post notes of encouragement to each other.
